Every year, poor gas work and faulty or old appliances cause accidental death or injury. We exist to keep those most at risk, safe from gas poisoning, fires and explosions and strive to reduce gas-related injury, illness and death.

We provide information and support; facilitate awareness and funding; work with charities and other organisations already trusted to go into people’s homes; and deliver practical and preventive guidance.

Independent Living Support Programme

Working with Foundations Independent Living Trust (FILT) since 2013, we are able to intervene by providing grants via local Home Improvement Agencies (HIAs) to individuals and families in urgent need of help at the time when it is most important: when an actual or potential problem with a gas appliance has been identified.

Trustee Vacancies

The Gas Safe Charity is seeking to appoint up to three new Trustees to fill vacancies arising from recent resignations. The charity has a turnover of around £500k and was established in 2009 as a result of the award of the Concession Agreement for gas registration services to Capita plc, establishing the Gas Safe Register.

The Charity works with key partners to provide direct assistance to vulnerable people at times of need and works with trusted intermediaries in the public and voluntary sectors to promote a greater understanding of the signs and symptoms of Carbon Monoxide poisoning.

As a Trustee and Director, you will take a strategic overview of the charity’s activities. There are six Board meetings a year, plus an Awayday. Trustees are also expected to be on one of the Review Groups overseeing the charity’s projects.

We would like to hear from you if you have skills and experience in the following areas:

  • Marketing and communications
  • Finance
  • General non executive director experience with the ability to focus and advise on
broad strategy and projects run by the charity.

The Gas Safe Charity is keen to broaden the diversity of the Board and would welcome candidates who can contribute a diversity of representation and thinking, including people
from minority ethnic groups, LGBTQ+ people and people with disabilities.

Trustees are appointed for an initial three year term, which may be extended to a maximum of nine years.

The deadline for applications is 5 p.m. on 16 June 2026.

To register your interest, please provide a CV, contact details for two referees and a
covering letter outlining why you wish to apply for the opportunity and how you meet the
requirements for the role. Shortlisted applicants will be invited to attend an interview with a Trustee Panel.

A Trustee Role Description & Person Specification can be seen here. If you require any further information about the Charity or the roles, please contact the Secretary at maureen.nolan@gassafecharity.org.uk. If you would like to discuss your application with the Chair, please contact the Secretary in the first instance.
